Cost-benefit analysis to assess the efficiency of bicycle traffic measures

The aim of this project was to develop a method that allows planners to assess the efficiency of bicycle traffic measures while also considering the entire traffic situation. On the one hand, the method had to be combined with the method  standard assessment methods  and, on the other hand, it was essential to consider the advantages of cycling, such as the positive impacts on people's health. A scientific advisory council, consisting of researchers and transportation professionals, was established to provide a broad knowledge base. In the final stage of the project, the method was tested in Berlin and Hamburg. It proved to be a suitable method for objective decision-making concerning the implementation of bicycle traffic measures by the local authorities. Detailed information on this method can be found in a guideline.
