Categorisation of road tunnels acc. ADR 2007 (EU-agreement)

The aim of the project is to develop a method to assign every road tunnel for the passage of hazardous goods to a certain tunnel category according to ADR.

The integration of the widely used OECD/PIARC model was examined. In order to avoid a disproportional effort for the analysis of hazardous goods, a multi-level method was used to decide by means of a simple approach  whether hazardous goods transport is permitted for a certain number  of tunnels.

The evaluation of the method was based on case studies. The results of the project were collected and included in an instruction manual and in recommendations for regulations.
