China's first transport association benefits from PTV's extensive transportation expertise
Deputy Mayor Qiao from Foshan, Chancheng District, intensifies German-Chinese cooperation and signs letter of intent
Karlsruhe/Germany, August 2, 2010. Global demand for German expertise on transport concepts is ever increasing, in particular in the dynamic growth regions of Asia and the Middle East. In late July, a prestigious delegation from the Chancheng District in China visited PTV AG in Karlsruhe. The German company, a global provider of software and consulting services for traffic and transportation planning, is pleased to announce that Mr. Qiao, Deputy Mayor of the City of Foshan, signed a declaration of intent, affirming that both parties intend to intensify their cooperation in order to further improve traffic and transport in China.
The City of Foshan that has 800,000 inhabitants living in an area of 154 km² is way ahead of the field: in September 2008, it established China's first transport association. At that time, the Chinese authority also asked the German transportation experts to support it with their knowledge and expertise. Since then, the Municipality of Foshan has been using the software suite PTV Vision with its module VISUM for transportation planning. They also obtained advice from PTV on the establishment of the transport association.
Both parties now want to continue strengthening its successful cooperation with the aim to optimise traffic and transportation. There has been concrete discussion on introducing advanced intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and of taking measures designed to improve public transport. The delegation that consisted of the senior department heads of the Transport Bureau, the Environmental Protection Bureau, and the Water, Human Resources and Social Security Authorities and the Urban Comprehensive Administration also visited the City of Nuremberg and the City of Munich.
Deputy Mayor Qiao emphasised: "It is exciting to gather first-hand information on German flagship projects focussing on traffic concepts. This allows us to find out more about the various options that could be useful for the City of Foshan. The visit to Karlsruhe has definitely reaffirmed our intention to intensify our cooperation with PTV."
