Dr.-Ing. Thomas Schwerdtfeger

Qualifications: Thomas Schwerdtfeger studied mathematics at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. In 1980 he majored in the subjects theoretical mathematics, computer science and operations research. His thesis concentrated on complex analysis. In July 1986 he graduated as a PhD in engineering. His dissertation examined the simulation of traffic flow in express road networks.
Professional experience: During his university studies he was involved in research analyses at the faculty of Traffic Engineering focussing on traffic simulation models.
After his university studies he continued his research work at the faculty of Traffic Engineering in Karlsruhe. Besides lecturing, he was responsible for the computing centre of the faculty as well as for the development of new traffic flow simulation models.
In 1985 Thomas Schwerdtfeger started working at PTV Planungsbüro Transport und Verkehr GmbH. He built up the business unit Traffic Planning Software which was integrated into the PTV System GmbH in 1986 and he became its managing director. Together with other business partners he founded the PSV Planungsbüro Stadt- und Regionalverkehr GmbH in Dresden in 1990 and also became its managing director. PSV is a company of the PTV group.
Thomas Schwerdtfeger has been a member of the Board of Directors of PTV Planung Transport Verkehr AG since 1st January 1999.
